Several people have suggested over recent weeks, that this coronavirus was developed by some world powers to keep other world powers at bay. Some suggest China caused it through some careless testing of possible chemical warfare, and others have suggested that America has caused it to slow down China’s influence as a superpower. Well I have my own ‘conspiracy’ theory.

In many countries today, ours not excluded, people are turning their backs on their creator God. Perhaps the time has been reached, as in the days of Noah, that God can no longer tolerate sinful man’s rejection of him and the wickedness that has resulted.

Where shall I start? Well let’s start with the gift of life we have received. Instead of protecting life, many now deliberately murder babies in the womb on a scale that has never been seen before. Abortion rates in the western world have reached staggering numbers. Abortions are allowed well into the third trimester of a pregnancy, all given a green light by the governments over us. Similarly, instead of upholding the sanctity of life, euthanasia is now becoming the preferred option for people who think they or their loved ones have reached their used by date.

During marriage ceremonies, a man and woman make promises before God to love and cherish each other unto death separates them. Sadly, it no longer seems to apply. In fact, many marriage ceremonies no longer mention God in the vows. And so, when couples tire of each other, divorce and brokenness is the result.

And then last but certainly not least, we have the government sanctioned same-sex marriages.

I cannot speak for other countries, but just consider for a moment what has happened in the past and is happening now in our country. We have experienced several years of drought. We have had the worst bushfires for many years. We have seen floods that have damaged the livelihoods of many people. And now we are struggling with the coronavirus.

And now our ‘wealthy’ toys are lying idle. Great Cruise ships are moored in our bays with no passengers. Many airlines have cut services and some are close to going bankrupt. Businesses are closing and many people are in danger of losing their jobs. The stock markets have plunged and caused many retirees life savings to dwindle and some to even disappear. And the line-ups at Woolies and Coles is something many of us have never experienced.

Leaders of the nations are desperately trying to avoid a recession or even worse a long-term depression in their respective economie. Their answer is to throw billions of dollars as a stimulus hoping that it will calm their constituents.

Here then is my ‘coronaspiracy’. It seems to me that God in his grace and mercy is calling us back to Himself. All these so called ‘natural’ disasters have their origin with the creator God and my strong suspicion is that He is using all these things to say to mankind, ‘Turn, turn from your evil ways and live.’

Prayer: Lord, give us ears to hear and eyes to see so that nations may turn to You in repentance. Be pleased to use us to bring the life-saving message of your love and care for us, especially in Jesus Christ, to the many people who are hurting. JZ
